Amber Doe
I have been fortunate enough to work with Amber on a few print projects. Our friendship bloomed from our meeting at an artist residency at Canserrat in El Bruc, Spain in 2014. During that residency Amber made her first print with me as I invited all the artists to come and join me around the press for a bit of a pop-up print workshop. It was great to see all the artists from a variety of backgrounds and mediums explore ink on paper. This initial print went on to be an important symbol and holds a special space in Amber’s work and it available as a pendant or ring at the website https://lamadradajewelry.com/about
Since then we have supported each others art and lives from near and far.
One of the projects I want to highlight is the work that would become ‘IL BAT POUR TOI’
As Amber and I have worked together before and from a distance, she is based in Tucson, AZ. We have not let that affect ideas or projects. In this project she had posted an image of one of her pieces ‘Self -Portrait’ I was so taken by it (texture, colour) I asked if we could do a bit of a project together. So this became the first Reciprocity Print Project.
I created a screen print based on a portion of this textile artwork using my favourite subtle colours and tones. I then posted these onto Amber to build, weave and incorporate her textile work in/onto.
“Il bat pour toi,” 14” x 19,” wool, leaves, thread, Fabriano Rosaspina paper. 2020
